Due to our ongoing success and planned strategic growth, we're expanding our Northern Team and are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Land & Planning Manager to join our dynamic team in our new, modern Leeds office.

The role

As a Senior Land & Planning Manager, you will play a crucial role in identifying, acquiring, and promoting strategic land opportunities, ensuring successful planning outcomes, and contributing to the growth and success of our projects. We are looking for someone who has lots of energy, drive and ambition; someone who can work productively with consultants, landowners and local planning authorities to deliver results and meet deadlines.  You’ll need to have the ability to communicate clearly with individuals at all levels with strong management skills, an ability to prioritise and great negotiation and networking skills.

Key responsibilities:

  • Land Acquisition: Identify and secure strategic land opportunities across the region.
  • Planning Promotion: Manage the planning promotion process, including preparing and submitting planning applications. Liaise with local authorities and both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Project Management: Oversee project delivery from inception to completion, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met. Demonstrate high personal ownership for specific sites and actions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with landowners, local authorities, consultants, and other key stakeholders.
  • Market Analysis: Conduct market research and analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and risks in the land and planning sector.
  • Team Leadership: Provide guidance and support to junior team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Presentations: Present to landowners and agents in both formal and informal settings.
  • Negotiations: Negotiate legal agreements with solicitors and other third parties.
  • Information Procurement: Obtain technical, legal, and development information to instruct internal and external parties in preparing offers.
  • Documentation: Prepare and submit Land Approval Packs and obtain authority to acquire sites in line with company protocols.
  • Senior Support: Provide support to the regional Executive Director and other regional teams where appropriate.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Degree in Town Planning, Urban Planning, or a related field.
  • Chartered Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) or equivalent.
  • Experience in a similar role, preferably within the private sector.
  • Strong knowledge of UK planning legislation and policy.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing planning applications and appeals.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, presentation and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Capacity to work independently and as part of a team.
